There are slaves in this world. There are people who live hell and will always do. There are countries that are in perpetual war. “But this we know.”
There are slaves in this world who are working so that we can have cheap cloth and food. There are people who live hell and will always do cause we screwed up their society. There are countries in perpetual war so that some of our economies keep growing. “But this we know too.”
Even if those people don’t or can’t respond, nature will.
There are seas which don’t hold fishes anymore. There are forests that don’t have trees anymore. There are paradises which are not paradises anymore. “But this we know.”
There are seas which don’t hold fishes anymore cause we needed them for feeding humans. There are forests that don’t have trees anymore cause we devastated them so we could have massive cow farms / meat factories for feeding ourselfs. There are paradises which are not paradises anymore cause we destroyed them looking for oil and gas. “But this we know too.”
“But this we know, it’s nothing new”, I think while I go in the subway towards the theater. I look around, and I see iphones and shopping bags with cheap cloths, or books. I get down in the right station and I step out, climb the stairs, turn the corner and head towards the theater. Afterwards I will probably have some fun with a couple of friends. While I walk, I ask myself the same question I made myself so many times when I was born, when I was 16: “do we live so well that we will never give up in our lack of embarrassement?”.
